Consent Mode V2 is Just Around the Corner!

28 February 2024

Listen up, if you're keen on collecting data from users in the EEA/UK for advertising purposes, you've got to upgrade to Google Consent Mode V2. It's not just a suggestion, it's a must!

From March 2024, Google will put the brakes on you capturing new EEA user data in your Google audiences if you don't implement Consent Mode V2. Imagine not being able to target the right customers! Trust us, the impact on your ability to convert new customers would be major!

// So, what is Consent Mode V2?

Google Consent Mode v2 got a nice little upgrade. Before, it had these fancy consent states called "analytics_storage" and "ad_storage" for keeping tabs on your data. Now, they've made it even better! They tweaked it to follow the latest data privacy laws, especially when it comes to collecting data for ads that are all about personalisation, like those clever remarketing ones. So, instead of just holding onto your data, they're making sure it's all legit and respects your privacy while giving you those personalised ads you love! Isn't that awesome?

While Google Consent Mode focused primarily on data collection, V2 focuses on how that data is used and shared.

The star of the show in Consent Mode V2 is the addition of two new consent states that give you even more control over how user data is used and shared for advertising purposes. Say hello to ad_user_data and ad_personalisation! These consent states determine whether personal data is sent to Google based on whether the user consents or not.

ad_user_data determines whether personal data is sent to Google (via Google Ads Google Shopping, Google Play) depending on whether or not a user gives consent.

ad_personalisation determines whether personal data is sent to Google for Remarketing purposes depending on whether or not a user gives consent.

With V2, you're not just complying with the law, you're stepping up your game in terms of effective ad campaigns, accurate data, and customer trust.

// Without V2 come risks

  • Legal risks
  • Ineffective ads
  • Missed potential customers
  • Inaccurate data
  • Losing customer trust

Basically, implementing Consent Mode v2 is crucial for maintaining legal compliance, effective ad campaigns, accurate data, and customer trust.
