Tell us some facts about yourself.

I love my sports (both watching and playing) and consider myself a bit of a film buff, though people in the office might disagree. I'm a keen runner who is stupid enough to have ran some marathons, but sensible enough to support the greatest football team in the world - Man Utd. Love a good wee debate (Usually about football and films) and I'll be getting married this month if my girlfriend doesn't come to her senses by then!

What did you study at University?

I studied Media Studies with Film Studies for my undergraduate and then did a Masters in Marketing.

How/why did you get into digital advertising?

I did an apprenticeship at a Belfast-based web agency where I was first introduced to Google Ads. I was fascinated by the level of accuracy in the reporting and the data available. Traditional advertising has next to no ability to provide the level of impression and engagement data which digital advertising can. For me, it's reinvented the wheel within the industry and I think things are only getting started where digital advertising is concerned.

Please talk us through a typical day for you at Loud Mouth Media.

Every day is unique, which is one of the reasons I enjoy my job. Generally, the morning time would be spent keeping on the ball with emails and checking into accounts to check up on performance and for optimisation; for example, looking at Search queries, adding in negative keywords, monitoring spend and so on. In the afternoon I would focus more on deep-diving the accounts by analysing data, testing, targeting, bidding strategies, and seeing if the campaigns are progressing as planned. The last hour of the day I would generally spend contacting clients with campaign updates and recommendations. There are plenty of client calls and meetings in between, and of course some lunchtime ping pong just to recharge the batteries.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The challenge of growing a successful account and establishing a strong working relationship to sustain that success in the long term. A lot of businesses depend on PPC campaigns to be successful so to help them achieve this is very fulfilling, especially if they've had a bad previous experience and you are able to change their perspective.

Most challenging aspects of your job?

Educating clients on modern user behaviour and incorporating that experience into their digital strategy. Google Ads is no longer just one dimensional Search - an entire Marketing strategy can be created on the platform across Search, Shopping, Display and Video. The challenge is to educate clients in looking at this wider success and growth rather than short-term, last-click results.

What kind of skills do you need to succeed in the job?

Planning, multi-tasking, creative thinking and being proactive.

What helps you get the job done?

We have our own dedicated Google account managers who support us in growing accounts with new and existing products. We also have our own Google code implementation team who provide technical assistance to all of our clients - Which is invaluable. However the greatest tool at my disposal (get ready for the cheese) is the team I work with on a daily basis. We all have our strengths and weaknesses but when we work closely together, anything is possible.

Any advice for aspiring talent?

Work hard, don't talk when you should be listening and try to think outside the box. Be open-minded, embrace new ideas and challenge everything!
